WEEK 4

The PJFL Contact regular season entered its 4th week this past Saturday with several divisions providing some interesting storylines as the top teams from each continued to challenge for top spot and the regular season championship.  In particular, the Senior, Advanced and Intermediate divisions should both come down to the wire as each division showcases one undefeated team while the second place squad has only one loss.

Let’s start with the Senior Division where the undefeated Chargers continued to roll as they shutout the Steelers 27-0 to move to a perfect 4 wins and no losses and the top spot in the Senior Division.  The 49ers also continued their impressive season with a decisive 22-0 shutout victory over the Cowboys.  The win moved the 49ers to 3-1 on the season and gives them a firm grip on the second place spot.

The Advanced Division race should come down to the wire as the Texans and Packers both looked great in their wins.  In an amazing feat, the Texans continued their dominance on the defensive side of the ball with their 4th shutout in 4 games this season as they defeated the Saints 27-0 to move to 4-0.  The Packers also looked stellar as they showcased their offensive firepower once again in their 40-14 victory over the Cardinals.  For those of you wanting to see a great game this upcoming Saturday, get out to the Fields at 3:00PM to see if the Packers high-powered offense can upend the stifling Texans “D”!

In the Junior Varsity Division, the Falcons earned their first victory of the season with an upset win over the previously undefeated Jaguars, 18-13.  The Vikings improved to .500 with low-scoring victory over the Bills.  This is turning into one of the most competitive divisions in PJFL and it will be fun to see if the Falcons can build on their win this past weekend and make the race for the top spot in the division even tighter as we head into the final 2 weeks of the regular season.

In the Intermediate Division, the Patriots improved their undefeated record to 4-0 with a 13-8 victory over the Panthers and the Colts edged the Broncos 14-13 to move to 3-1 overall.  Should be a great game this Saturday at 11:00AM when the Colts host the Patriots with first place on the line.

Round 2 of the 2011 PJFL Post-Season Tournament took place on Saturday and featured some of the best football action of the year!  While all of the #1 seeded teams took care of business and were victorious across the board, several of the #2 seeded teams struggled and found themselves upset by the #3 seed in their division.  It made for a great day of high drama and intense play.

We’ll start this week in the Junior Varsity Division which has arguably ended up being the most competitive division in PJFL in 2011.  After yesterday’s action, the Bills, Jaguars and Vikings all have identical overall records with 5 wins and 3 losses each.  In maybe the most entertaining game of the day, the #2 seeded Vikings were edged in an overtime thriller, 26-20, by a hard-nosed Jaguars squad.  The win earned the Jags a spot in the Post-Season Tournament Championship game against the hard-hitting Bills who defeated the Falcons 30-6.

In Advanced Division play, the Texans continued their impressive winning streak with a decisive 20-0 shutout win over the Saints and improved to an undefeated 8-0 on the season.  Across the way, the Packers prolific offense set the tone early and cruised to a 32-6 win over the Cardinals.  The win moves the Packers to 6-2 overall on the season and catapults the Pack into the Post-Season Tournament Championship game against the Texans.  Tune in on Saturday to see if the Packers can avenge their only two losses of the season against the mighty Texans!

In the Senior Division, the #2 seeded 49ers were upset by the #3 seed Cowboys, 14-6 in a highly entertaining football game.  Leading 6-0 at the half, the 49ers couldn’t hold-off the Cowboys who scored 14 unanswered second half points en route to the victory.  The win moves the Cowboys to 3-5 overall while the 49ers fall to 5-3.  In the other Senior Division contest, the Chargers once again dominated their opponent as they rolled to a 27-0 victory over the Steelers.  The win lifted the undefeated Chargers to 8-0 overall.  Look for the Cowboys to pull-out all the stops next Saturday as they try to derail the boys in powder blue.

In the Intermediate Division, both the Patriots and Colts moved to 7-1 on the season with impressive second round tournament victories.  The Patriots defeated the Broncos 19-6 while on field 2, the Colts put up a similar score as they earned a win over the Panthers, 20-6.  This sets-up a highly anticipated matchup between the Colts and Patriots in the final game of the season for the Post-Season Tournament title and bragging rights for the best overall record.  Look for an epic game that we’ll all be talking about for some time!

WEEK 9

Pleasanton Junior Football League wrapped-up its 42nd contact football season on Saturday with the highly-anticipated PJFL Post-Season Tournament championship and consolation games.  The highly competitive season culminated without any major upsets, but that doesn’t mean that it went down without drama as many of the games came down to the wire in heart-pounding fashion.

PJFL would like to thank all of the players, cheerleaders, parents, referees and volunteers that helped make 2011 the most successful season yet.  We couldn’t have done it without all of you.  A special congratulations goes out to all of our players and cheerleaders currently in the 8th grade – good luck next year as you move into your high school football and cheer careers and thank you for making PJFL the greatest youth football league in the country!
